In 1984 my
wife and I bought a hundred year old house in Westerville,
Ohio and began restoring it. It took most of our
spare time and all of our spare money to do but room by room the transformation
progressed. In 1987 our son was born. As he grew
it became obvious that a fenced back yard needed
to be added to the long list of projects. Since the house was an old Victorian
on a corner lot we knew that a "common" fence
would look out of place. So we began looking for a company to build
a fence that looked like it belonged with a hundred
year old Victorian house. To our surprise none
of the "custom fence" companies offered anything
that looked like it belonged. So we started looking through books and
magazines to get ideas. We found one that we liked
and built it ourselves. We were flattered by all
of the traffic that stopped to tell us how much they liked
our fence and amused by how many people wanted to know who had built it.
Soon people began to ask me to build fences for
their special houses. This became a hobby that
lasted for a couple of years until I decided to escape
the corporate world and persue fencing as a full time business.
Many years
have past since that decision was made. The business grew
and soon my garage workshop was much too small to handle the work load. We
decided that the perfect property would be five acres (room to grow) with
a fine old house and a good size barn (workshop). In 1997 we found the
perfect property. It has a three story Queen Ann house, five acres and a
three story barn. Renovation continues on this house and
property.
